04 / Preparation / ORIGINAL SELF-PACED PROGRAM

Plan Before You Go

Create a clear preparation checklist and questions to resolve before an organized outdoor outing.

WHO IT IS FOR

Start where
you are.

People preparing for an organized day outdoors who want to coordinate information, equipment, travel, and communication.

WHAT YOU WILL PRACTICE

  • Assemble a source-based outing brief with the meeting point, timing, organizer instructions, and unresolved questions.
  • Build a packing and logistics checklist from actual organizer requirements and expected conditions.
  • Document communication arrangements and decision checkpoints to review with the organizer before departure.

WHAT YOU WILL BUILD

A program with
a finished outcome.

The Organized Outing Preparation Packet

Build a coherent preparation packet for one organized outing or a clearly labeled fictional scenario. Demonstrate how you record current information, assign agreed responsibilities, handle changes and preserve unanswered questions. The packet supports coordination; it is not event approval or a readiness assessment.

Three templates to reuse

  • Sourced Outing Brief
  • Responsibilities and Dependencies Table
  • Final Review and Learning Record

Each includes blank prompts and a completed example.

Your 6-week suggested study plan

1

Gather the Reliable Details

A dated outing brief with sources, conflicts and three precise organizer questions.

2

Prepare the Practical Pieces

A requirements-based checklist with statuses, owners and dependencies.

3

Agree How to Communicate

A communication record and clearly labeled hypothetical update rehearsal.

4

Review Before Departure

A final-review record showing current information and unresolved decisions.

5

Coordinate Shared Responsibilities

A responsibility table checked against one change scenario.

6

Close the Loop and Reuse the Method

A complete preparation packet, retrospective and clean reusable template.

Study at your own pace. The week labels are a suggested schedule, not live appointments.

YOUR COMPLETE CURRICULUM

One step builds
on the next.

6 complete text lessons, each with a worked example, practical exercises, reflection prompts and an assessment. Open each module to explore its focus.

01

Gather the Reliable Details

Identify the organizer's current instructions and separate confirmed information from assumptions.

Course exercise: Create an outing brief. Add the source and date checked for each essential detail, and list anything that still needs an answer.

02

Prepare the Practical Pieces

Organize transport, arrival, equipment, food and water arrangements, and other responsibilities around the organizer's requirements.

Course exercise: Make a checklist with three columns: ready, needs action, and needs clarification. Give each unresolved item an owner.

03

Agree How to Communicate

Clarify who needs the plan, when check-ins are expected, and which organizer instructions apply if plans change.

Course exercise: Write down the organizer's contact route, your agreed check-in arrangement, and where the group will find the current plan.

04

Review Before Departure

Use a final review to catch changes in access, weather information, travel, instructions, or your ability to meet participation requirements.

Course exercise: Run a pre-departure review using current official information. Mark unresolved issues for the organizer and decide whether anything requires changing the plan.

05

Coordinate Shared Responsibilities

Turn individual checklists into a shared plan with explicit owners, dependencies and change records.

Course exercise: Create a responsibility table for three shared arrangements, naming agreed owners and completion evidence.

06

Close the Loop and Reuse the Method

Review the preparation process and create a reusable structure without carrying old assumptions into a new outing.

Course exercise: Compare the final brief with the information used in your real or clearly labeled hypothetical scenario.

Replace assumptions with a brief

A useful preparation brief records what you know, where it came from, and what remains unresolved. “Meet in the morning” is not enough to organize transport. You need the organizer's meeting location, arrival instructions, and current time. The same applies to equipment, access restrictions, and what is provided. Keep a separate questions list instead of filling gaps with guesses. When you receive an answer, update the brief so that everyone is working from the same version.

A checklist should reflect the actual outing and the organizer's current requirements. A generic list can help you remember categories, but it cannot establish that an activity is suitable for you or that conditions are safe. Before departure, review current official weather and access information alongside the organizer's instructions. If something is unclear or you cannot meet a requirement, contact the organizer before committing to the plan. This resource teaches organization; it does not replace field instruction, navigation competence, or event-specific safety guidance. Give the brief a version date and make it easy for the people involved to locate. When a detail changes, mark the change and tell anyone whose arrangements depend on it. A well-kept plan remains useful because the group knows which information is current.

YOUR TURN

Build a one-page brief for an organized outing. Highlight every unconfirmed detail and write the specific question that would resolve it.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT STEP

Know what to expect.

What is available?

Your program includes 6 text lessons, worked examples, exercises, self-assessments, three reusable templates, a study plan, a final project and a complete downloadable workbook. A free introductory lesson and worksheet are available above.

What do you need?

A phone, tablet or computer with a browser, internet access to open lessons, and somewhere to write. No previous course is required. Download the workbook after access is granted to keep an offline copy.

Dates and payment

Choose your preferred start month and submit your details. This is a self-paced course, not a scheduled live session. The team confirms the final total, payment method and access terms before payment, then issues a private access code.

What format is it?

This is original self-guided reading material created for this website. It is not Chadd-authored instruction and does not include live coaching, video lessons or certification.

YOUR LESSONS / YOUR PACE

Open your course.

After payment is confirmed, the team supplies a private access code. Enter it below to read all 6 lessons, complete the activities and download the full workbook.

Your questions, answered.

Do I need to attend an outdoor event to complete this course?

No. Use a clearly labeled fictional organized outing if you do not have an appropriate real example. The learning work is planning, coordination and review.

Does this teach field skills or certify that I am ready for a mission?

No. It teaches information organization and practical coordination. It does not provide navigation, survival, fitness, medical or event-specific safety instruction, and it does not certify readiness.

Must I follow the six-week schedule exactly?

No. The six weeks are a suggested study sequence. Allow roughly 6–8 total hours and adapt the pace to your circumstances. Waiting for a real organizer response can extend the calendar time.

What materials do I need?

The lessons and worksheets, a place to write or edit your brief, and current organizer information for a real scenario. No outdoor equipment purchase or field activity is required by this course.

What will I have when I finish?

A sourced preparation brief, practical checklist, communication record, responsibility table, change review, retrospective and reusable planning template. They remain subject to the actual organizer’s instructions.
